The Village

at Breckenridge

Wintertime in Breckenridge Brings Plenty of Fun

While our summers are nothing short of glorious, we'd be remiss if we didn't remind you of our simply spectacular Breckenridge winters and the snow-covered playground you'll find in the heart of the Rockies.

All ages, from toddlers to grandparents, have activities and events tailor-made for them—whether they choose to tackle the mountain or not.  Winter has come to mean skiing, of course, but it means so much more.

The Village at Breckenridge provides skiing enthusiasts access to Peak 9 right outside its back door—and winter enthusiasts can find a myriad of other snow-fun activities right beyond the front door.

Skiing--  Breckenridge Ski Resort's four interconnected mountains dish up more than 2,000 acres of skiable terrain and more than 130 trails geared to all levels of ability.  It's easy to get from peak to peak, too, by super quad chairs, triple chairs, doubles and surface lifts.  Nearby are Breckenridge's sister resorts of Keystone and Vail, as well as Copper Mountain and Arapahoe Basin.  You'll discover why Breckenridge, with its dedicated snowboard terrain, enjoys the distinction of being the second-most popular ski resort in North America.

Cross Country skiing--  Backcountry skiing is  a glorious way to see this region, and there are more than 200 miles of trails and abandoned mining roads in the Arapaho National Forest.  Also, the Breckenridge Nordic Center has more than 1,500 acres of skinny skiing, with a bounty of set track and groomed trails.

Snowshoeing--  It's as easy as walking and as strenuous as you choose to make it—on the flats or up a hillside.  You'll go places skis or hiking boots just won't take you.

Dog Sled Rides--  These canines are happiest when they're dashing along a forested trail, and you can choose to ride in back as a musher or snuggle down under the blankets in the sled and enjoy the landscape as it whisks by.

Sleigh Ride Dinners-  Sturdy Belgian draft horses, complete with sleigh bells that jingle as you go, pull a big sleigh through the woods to a heated tent, where a Western dinner and mealtime entertainment await.  It's great family fun!

Ice Skating--  Right on property at The Village, you'll find Maggie Pond, once the site of miners' riches and today a lovely site to glide on skates.  There are sleds for the little ones, so you can skate and tow at the same time.

Snowmobile Tours--  You can ride one of these sleek machines all the way to the top of the Continental Divide if you choose, or you can take a short jaunt through the woods.  For the 9-14 year-old set, there are mini-snowmobiles that allow them their own brand of fun.

Hot Air Balloon Rides--  What a way to see the sights!  Soar above it all in the gondola of one of these colorful balloons, expertly piloted up and down the Blue River Valley.

Et cetera--  Historical walking tours, either self-guided or with a docent from the Summit Historical Society, put Breckenridge's past in colorful perspective.  Included in the tours are visits to the Carter National History Museum and to the restored Briggle House and Milne Cottage—Victoriana revisited!  Breckenridge also boasts a multi-million dollar recreation center that sports two climbing walls, lap and leisure pools, water slide, spas, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, racquetball courts, a skateboard park, gym, fitness rooms, indoor running track and much more.  Live theater is right at The Village with the Backstage Theatre; great restaurants abound; and there's nightlife galore.
