The 5th Annual Pikes Peak Regional History Symposium: Doctors, Disease and Dying in the Pikes Peak Region

This free symposium will examine the Pikes Peak region's medical pioneers. A reception and book signing will follow the program. A complimentary light lunch will be provided. World Music Series 2008: Feufollet Formed in 1995 when accordionist/singer Chris Stafford was 8 and fiddler Chris Segura was 11, Feufollet quickly developed a following in Acadiana, not merely for their youthful energy but also for their surprising musical maturity and instrumental expertise in the traditional music of the Cajun culture.

The members of Feufollet have been among the most promising exponents of Cajun folk music for the past decade. Presented by Pikes Peak Library District in partnership with Colorado College and the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado. Summer Reading Programs

Children and Teens – win prizes for reading! Enjoy special programs including shows, films, storytimes, arts, and more. Register online or at your library beginning May 17. Summer Reading will be held May 27 - July 31 at all Pikes Peak Library District locations.

Teen Advisory Groups These groups meet to help library staff plan the Teen Summer Reading Program and other teen events at the Library. Thurs., June 5 and 19 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. – Penrose Library (PSST group) Thurs., June 12 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. – East Library (NYAC group)

Scribes and Bards  This is a writer’s workshop for students in middle school through college. A published fantasy author will lead exercises, discussions, and writing lessons.

Father/Son Creations Make a craft together to take home. In June, make “tire track writing paper.” Have fun inking tire tracks with toy cars and motorcycles. View a 1931 Model A Ford Roadster! Exhibits and Displays

East Library, 5550 N. Union Blvd. The exhibit Journey to the Cure will explore the medical community in the Pikes Peak region. The exhibit highlights the treatment of tuberculosis in the Pikes Peak Region, specifically the Modern Woodmen of America Sanatorium and Cragmor Sanatorium.

View architecture, patient rooms, doctors, nurses, and patients.   Discover different treatment options including medicines, Manitou Spa cures, and treatment options for children at the Nutrition Camp.

All materials and photographs in the exhibit are from the archives in Special Collections, which are available to the public. View this exciting exhibit from June 2 through June 30.

Monument Branch, 1706 Lake Woodmoor Drive View the display Origami: Then and Now. This subtle and elegant art form began in Japan and was called ori (to fold) gami (paper). Traditionally the term implied one folded piece of paper. The term is now used worldwide to include many pieces of paper and cutting with precision.
