K&L Ski & Ride Free Program returns for fourth season.

Having seen tens of thousands of people take advantage of the program over the last three seasons, Copper Mountain Resort again offers its K&L Beginner Ski & Ride Free program this winter.

The K&L program offers free skiing on five trails and over 53 acres of beginner terrain surrounding the K and L chairlifts in the Union Creek area.  Anyone who would like to ride the lifts for free can simply go to the Union Creek ticket sales desk and ask for a free ticket any day the program is offered.  Specific dates for which the program is offered are now available, officials said.

"There are no strings attached to this program," explained Communications Director Hilary Fadner.  "Copper understands that trying a new snow sport can seem overwhelming when you consider all the necessary components required to spend a day on the slopes.  Our simple goal with the K&L program is to help more people enjoy snow sports by taking some of the hassle and expense out of the mountain experience."

The K&L beginner program is also a great way for experienced snow sliders to attempt a new sport.  "We've seen lots of skiers try snowboarding or telemarking with this program," Fadner added.  "We've also found the program is quite popular with parents who are teaching their children a snow sport—especially when three or four runs can constitute a full day on the slopes."

For more information on the K&L Ski & Ride Free program and for specific dates, call (970) 968-2318, ext. 6652.

Copper's Off-Slope Action

When you need a break from the slopes, alternative activities abound at Copper Mountain Resort.

For a change of pace, try telemark skiing or snowblading—the equipment and classes you need to get started are offered every day at Copper.  Or strap on your skates and spend the afternoon ice skating around West Lake.  Take a snowmobiling tour in the Arapaho National Forest, arranged through the Copper Mountain Welcome Center.  Or experience cross country skiing or snowshoeing at the Copper Mountain Cross Country Center.

After the sun goes down, enjoy a rockin' happy hour at Kokomo's—named one of the top apres-ski venues in the nation by Ski Magazine—or take a quiet drink at The Pub.  Families can head to Telemark Lodge for Family Movie Night.  Visit the Copper Mountain Stables, offering moonlight sleigh rides including a gourmet dinner accompanied by live western guitar music in an authentic miner's tent.  Browse through the many shops in Copper Mountain's village, all open late to let you spend your days outside.  Or, take a short drive or free Summit Stage bus ride to Silverthorne to visit over 70 brand-name factory outlet shops, also open late during the winter season.

Don't forget to stop by the Copper Mountain Racquet and Athletic Club to experience one of the premiere athletic facilities in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.  The club boasts an indoor lap pool, spas, saunas and steam rooms, racquetball, massage facilities, a full-service weight room including free weights, Nautilus and Cybex equipment, exercise machines including stationary bikes, rowers and stairclimbers, a wide range of exercise classes including aerobics, water aerobics and body toning, and two indoor tennis courts with a tennis pro on staff and a variety of high altitude tennis camps and clinics.  Use of The Copper Mountain Racquet and Athletic Club is available free to guests who book their vacations through Copper Mountain Lodging Services, an amenity no other resort can match.

Copper is the site of Colorado's largest single ski area expansion for the 1998/99 winter season.  For more information on non-skiing activities at Copper, call (800) 458-8386 or visit Copper's web site at www.ski-copper.com.
